Guardian News & Media is pleased to present a new Word of Mouth research study and communications planning tool that provides a practical framework for identifying influential people.
The Guardian have been researching influence, idea propagation and word of mouth and, building on existing theories, have:
- Developed a new way of understanding and identifying influential people
- Established what traits and abilities make one person more influential than another
- Created a framework through which to identify influencers
A key output of the research is our Word of Mouth database. With results
fused to TGI, it is a practical communications planning tool that can be
used to both identify and understand key players active in word of mouth.

People like to share things. Gifts are a powerful tool for getting people motivated to share their thoughts, as well as giving them something to talk about.
People like to talk to one another about things they feel good about.
Matter is a new communication medium built around the simple idea of giving people things.
* How can this simple principle be employed to stimulate word-of-mouth conversation?
* How can these conversations and their value be accurately measured?
* Is there something, in the process of giving a physical item to someone, that can be utilised to measure word-of-mouth?
* How valuable would this process be?

Speaker: Tim Milne, creator of this new medium

WOMMA is the US version of WOMUK.
Word of mouth marketing encompasses an amazing diversity of techniques to get people talking. Whatever the ultimate goal of a marketing initiative, there’s sure to be a word of mouth technique that fits.
WOMMA’s Case Study Library is a “how-to” resource intended to help you gain a better understanding of the different types of word of mouth marketing that exist, as well as how to put them to work for you. We’re showcasing the best work from the best marketers, giving the people who create noteworthy word of mouth campaigns the recognition they deserve and providing an educational tool for those who want to learn a little more about this thing called “WOM.”
